Secure
the mortgage
Secure

Arrange
the removal company - or self-drive transportation
Rationalise
your possessions - this is a good opportunity to have a good clear
out. If you are doing the packing yourself, it's never too
early to start - there is always more then you think.
Don't
forget the attic and garage/shed items
Make
sure any outside items are kept dry, so that they are dry for
moving day.
Allow
extra room for last minute items like bed linen, dirty
clothes, toiletries
Clearly mark
boxes with contents and destination room
Dismantle
self-build furniture if it can't be moved whole
Don't
forget to take down curtains and any wall fixtures
Secure
parts of machinery which could be damaged during transit e.g.
washing machine drums
Keep essentials
(eg toiletries, bed linen, kettle, microwave) separate and readily
available for access at the other end.
Know
where the location of the local take-away - in case the cooker is
not connected in time for move-in night!

you need to update or change the cover amounts - Contact your broker

If you
have anything retained for safe keeping with solicitors or
bank, make sure they are notified of your new address.
Council
Tax: Notify the relevant authorities in your current area and
the area you are moving to.
Mail
Redirection:-. You can have your mail re-directed by the Post
Office. Requires seven days notice.
Newspapers
& Milk - Pay Accounts and Cancel
Gym
& Club membership - it may be appropriate to cancel these if you
are moving out of the area
House
Keys. Check when the keys to your new home are going to be
available, and that you know what to do with your own keys. Spare
keys clearly label and leave on the kitchen worktop when you leave
on moving day.
Parking
Ensure a parking space is available for the removal van at
both ends of the journey
Fridge/Freezers Empty,
defrost and dry out your fridge/freezer.
Kitchen
cupboards. Clear out kitchen cupboards and throw out
anything that is out of date. If the contents are being moved,
check everything is sealed tightly to avoid spillage.
Valuables/documents -
pack valuables and documents - place in a safe place and remember
where you put them.
Pets -
pets may not enjoy the general mayhem caused, so perhaps kennelling
would be a good idea
